About TotalGovt

What TotalGovt is

TotalGovt is a mobile app that helps people understand the government around them. It is built to cover both elected and non-elected government at the state, county, and city level: the people, the meetings, the votes, and the elections. Today the app is live for North Carolina, with South Carolina and Virginia next. We start on Android. iOS will come later.

Government should be easy to look up. The facts are usually public, but they are spread across many websites, in formats that are hard to read. TotalGovt brings them together and explains them in plain words, with a link to the original source on every item.

Independent and non-partisan

Our rules

• Same layout for everyone. Every candidate gets the same sections and topics.
• No endorsements. We do not endorse, rank, or score anyone.
• Party in words. Party is a small label with the party name written out.
• Ballot order. Lists follow the official ballot, not popularity.
• Plain summaries. Vote summaries describe what a bill does, not whether it is good.
• Dated and linked. Each item shows when we last checked it and links to its source.

Where the information comes from

For North Carolina, candidate filings and results come from the NC State Board of Elections. Officeholders and recorded votes come from the NC General Assembly and Congress. Career timelines and short biographies draw on Wikidata and Wikipedia, with credit and a link. The U.S. Census Bureau geocoder matches your address to your districts. We list the source on each profile.

Please verify

TotalGovt is unofficial. Confirm your registration, polling place, voting hours, and deadlines with your county board of elections. Election results are unofficial until certified. See our terms of use.

Who makes it
